Wellington Cable CarThe Wellington Cable Car is a popular tourist attraction that has become a staple of Wellington’s skyline. The cable car itself is red, with yellow trimming, and has been in operation for many years.

Visitors are encouraged to take the ride up the mountain to enjoy excellent views of the city. It’s a short trip to the top, about eight minutes or so, but the views are worth it.

You will also be enjoying how many Wellingtonians commute to work. The Cable Car is popular with students of Victoria University. The main lecture blocks and laboratories are in the Kelburn area near to the cable car terminus. This gives the students a quick way down to the centre of the city.

Enjoy a ride up from the terminal in the heart of the Lambton Quay shopping district up to the lookout for panoramic views of the city. You’ll be able to see across Wellington City and the harbour beyond, taking in everything that this bustling urban city has to offer.

The hills of the Remutaka Forest to the east, and the Wainuiomata Regional Park to the norh-east can be seen across the harbour, behind Eastbourne and Petone. They provide a fabulous backdrop to the beautiful city and region. It’s easy to see why Wellington is regarded as one of the most liveable cities in the world.

In addition to these attractions, visitors will also find the Cable Car Museum, the Space Place Observatory, and the Botanic Gardens.

Visitors can explore the acreage of the gardens or take a short walk to the village of Kelburn, which is only a short distance away.

People can either return to the city centre by going down the cable car, or they can walk down through the Botanical Gardens. Either way is worth it. It depends how much time you have available.
