The Malthouse has a large selection of beers to choose from. There are craft beer bars in Wellington that are great for those cold and rainy days. For those sunny days, you have to go to The Rogue and Vagabond to get a craft brew on a bean bag. The Hop Garden, now called Boneface, on Pirie Street has a lot of natural lighting and plants that make it seem like you’re outside.
Hashigo Zake on lower Taranaki Street has a changing range of craft beers. The bar proudly displays a sign, Heineken-Free Zone. The bar also has an excellent range of innovative live events from piano accompanying silent movies, to outstanding musicians.
Finally, Little Beer Quarter on Edward Street, in a little courtyard off Victoria St, is like an old English bar. The leather seating and fireplace will ensure that you are kept warm and cosy, making it the ideal place to spend a cold winter evening.
Irish Bars
Wellington has quite a few Irish pubs and is not a city without an Irish pub. The Green Man on Victoria Street hosts live music every Friday and Saturday. D4 is named after the owner of the Dublin address but there is a desire to be subtle in its Irish theme. You can also get a craft beer here. J.J. Murphy & Co on Cuba Street has a variety of food and drinks.
Sprig & Fern Tavern on Tinakori Road is part of a small chain of bars around the country selling their own craft brews .
There is no shortage of good bars selling well-made beers in Wellington. Have fun but drink responsibly.
